I tried to set the game settings to the minimum (like not showing the seas, trees, particles, etc.), give EU4 top priority in the task manager and adjust for the best performance in the advanced system settings in Windows. It started in the mid-age of absolutism and continuously got worse until it became unplayable. EU4 started to lag a lot in the late game.
